From a young age, Merlijn Angad Gaur had a fascination for TV show jingles. It was only later that he could put this in a different perspective…
Merlijn’s early career as a musician started studying harpsichord, being fascinated by Bach’s music. Well on his way in high school he discovered Jazz and switched to Jazz piano. For a few years he studied Jazz piano at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. At the same time, he was part of the Dutch Historical Dance and Theatre Ensemble with whom he performed in many countries from Europe to Japan as a Baroque dancer.
It was through a project of this group - De Reis van de Liefde, that toured both The Netherlands and Japan - for which he was asked to compose some music, that made him decide to start compose music for film. This led to the founding of Wise Man’s Child, a collaborative venture focussing on the composition of music for film, TV and multimedia. Nowadays he works both independently as well as for Wise Man’s Child.
Over the years he has been writing music for documentaries such as Het Vergeten Getto and Shades of Grey - nominated for a Golden Calf 2010 for Best Short Documentary; and films such as Winterstilte - winner Golden Calf 2008 Best Sound Design; and selected for Forum Berlinale at the 59th International Film Festival Berlin. More recently he has started working with Eric VanderBorght on various projects such as the 20 Years in Our Lives OPCW anniversary video, and the OPCW FIRES Fingerprints in the Mountains documentary.
On the other spectrum, Merlijn has always had a fascination for coaching people and making companies a better place to work in. This started with his employment in Art in Rhythm as a Corporate Training Programme Facilitator, delivering training programmes through the utilisation of art, music and play.
Until recently, besides being a composer, Merlijn was a global Talent Acquisition professional for the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
